Much of HBO’s epic fantasy television series Game of Thrones® was filmed in Northern Ireland from its pilot episode in 2010 to the final series broadcast in 2019.

Companies such as Netflix, Universal Pictures, SYFY, BBC, and Disney have also chosen the region for recent productions, while Belfast has also recently approved planning for its third film studio at Belfast Harbour. In addition, a flourishing animation sector is supported by specialised graduate and undergraduate courses in computer animation for games, VFX, feature and TV animation.
