About

Stendhal Festival and Nerve Centre present BIIRD...

As part of the City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival, we are thrilled to welcome Irish trad supergroup BIIRD to the Nerve Centre stage.

Bursting onto the scene in 2024, this 11-piece powerhouse has quickly made a name for itself with a spellbinding fusion of traditional airs, infectious energy, and undeniably danceable tunes.

BIIRD made their debut on St Patrick's Day 2024, performing to a crowd of 10,000 at Trafalgar Square in London, instantly causing a sensation. Since then, they have sold out three headline shows and packed out the Big Tent at All Together Now in August.

Formed through a shared love of Irish trad, BIIRD is more than just a band — they are a collective of best mates whose chemistry electrifies the stage. The group is led by Lisa Canny, a seven-time All-Ireland champion on harp and banjo, acclaimed songwriter, and producer. The full lineup includes:

Lisa Canny — Harp, banjo, vocals
Laura Doherty — Fiddle, guitar
Zoran Donohoe — Concertina
Sal Heneghan — Fiddle, harp,
Miadhachlughain O'Donnell — Flute, Vocals
Nicole Lonergan — Fiddle
Niamh Hinchy — Vocals, synth
Aoife Kelly — Cello
Ciara Ní Mhurchú — Fiddle
Hannah Hiemstra — Drums
Claire Loughran — Fiddle, harp

This unmissable show is supported by Derry City and Strabane District Council as part of the City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival.
