The heritage centre exhibits ancient maps and artefacts dating back to the 1600s and Penal era, aswell as interactive screens, video content and display boards that recreate the sights, sounds and smells of daily life in a Medieval monastic community on the edge of Europe.
Housed in a beautifully restored late-Georgian school building,the centre also displays a facsimile of the Book of Kells and explores its links to Columba’s Catach, the oldest book in Ireland and a prototype for the illuminated manuscripts renowned in Christian artwork.
The St Columba Heritage Centre is open Monday - Friday, 10.30am - 3pm

This includes a free self-guided audio tour of St Columba's Church Long Tower narrated by Catholic Bishop of Derry, Donal McKeown. The recording is also available in Irish and Italian.
Columba Tours
Walk in the footsteps of St Columba - the iconic saint who changed the destiny of these islands forever. We follow an ancient pathway trodden by pilgrims since the 9th century, pausing at must-see landmarks on the way that take you from an early Medieval berthing port to the flashpoints of the recent conflict and deep into the sanctuary of Columba's Doire where his kneeling stone has been venerated from the earliest times.
Tour Includes: Free Admission to St Columba Heritage Centre, an audio tour of St Columba's Long Tower, Access to St Columba's Kneeling Stone, view a rare facsimile of The Book of Kells and complimentary tea/coffee in Cloisters Cafe.
