Cuireadh Kíla ar bun i mBaile Átha Cliath i ndeireadh na 1980idí agus tá gradaim buaite acu, agus tá a bhfuaim ar leith ag forbairt i rith an ama, fréamhaithe sa traidisiún, ach spreagtha ag an iomad tionchar agus smaointe ó fud fad an domhain.
Is minic a shainmhínítear Kíla mar cheol domhanda Éireannach comhaimseartha, agus tarraingíonn Kíla tionchair a bhfoinn féin agus liricí Gaeilge, uirlisí ceoil tíre Éireannacha leithéid fideoga, fidleacha, píb uilleann, cnámha agus bodhrán le djembe, conga, drumaí, mandailín, uirlisí prais, agus giotáir acústacha agus leictreacha agus dordghiotáir. Is é an toradh meascán úr d’uirlisí réchúiseacha, poirt mhire, agus rithimí príomhúla a sháraíonn teorainneacha traidisiúnta an cheoil Ghaelaigh.

This special bilingual concert allows children to engage with music in fun, interactive and unusual ways, and is sure to enthral audiences with its lively musical acrobatics. Children will also have the opportunity to hear music Kíla composed for the film The Song of the Sea performed live along with this and other animated films.
Formed at school in Dublin’s late 1980’s, Award-winning band, Kíla’s unique sound has been ever-evolving, rooted in tradition, yet inspired by a myriad of influences and ideas from all around the world.
Often defined as contemporary Irish World music, Kíla fuse the effects of their own melodies and Irish lyrics, Irish folk instruments such as whistles, fiddles, Uilleann pipes, bones and bodhrán with djembe, congas, drums, mandolins, brass, and acoustic/electric/ bass guitars. The result is a fresh blend of freewheeling instrumentals, furious jigs, and primal rhythms that transcend the traditional boundaries of Irish music.
